Tailored Solutions for Every Space

Types of Living Wall Systems
-
Tray Systems
- Tray systems feature rows of individual potted plants mounted on the wall. Smaller installations can be hand-watered, while larger ones require an integrated irrigation system. These systems are practical, flexible, and can be installed with drainage-connected irrigation or as self-contained units with a built-in tank.
- Tray systems use uniform plant sizes, allowing for a consistent appearance. Plants are easy to replace and can even be rotated seasonally for a fresh, blooming look.
-
Felt Systems
- Felt or foam-based systems are ideal for creating expressive, artistic plant displays. In these installations, plants are directly planted into the material, resulting in a unique, mural-like design. However, replacing plants in felt systems is more complex and requires more time and expertise than in tray systems.
- Felt systems are best suited for larger installations with built-in infrastructure, including automatic irrigation and drainage.
-
Trellis Systems
- For installations that don’t require immediate coverage, trellis systems offer a simple yet effective solution. These walls fill in gradually as plants grow, with growth rates depending on the plant type, growing conditions, and trellis compatibility with the plant’s natural growth pattern. Some trellis systems can even be pre-grown with popular ivy varieties.

Alternatives to Living Walls
"Green" Walls
Not all green walls require live plants. For spaces where live plants are impractical, we offer alternatives like preserved moss walls and artificial plant walls.
-
Dried and Preserved Moss
- Moss walls are crafted from authentic, dried mosses treated with food-safe glycerin. These walls are highly customizable, offering a range of colors, textures, and artistic compositions, including company colors, symbols, and logos. Planterra’s in-house design team creates each moss wall to fit the project’s specific needs.
-
Artificial Plant Walls
- For areas where live plants cannot thrive, artificial plant walls provide a convincing alternative. Our design team expertly mimics the look of live plant walls, ensuring a natural appearance. Since faux plants require no light or water, they can be installed virtually anywhere, including hard-to-reach areas or locations with harsh environmental conditions.
FAQs
Planted systems start at approximately $200 per square foot, with prices varying based on design complexity and materials.
Tall living walls require an on-site lift for maintenance. This method ensures safe and efficient access for proper care and upkeep.
Planterra does not use a proprietary system. We collaborate with designers and clients to select the most suitable systems for each space. Our recommendations sometimes include manufacturers with proprietary technology, depending on the project’s needs.
