Euphorbia Pulcherrima

Poinsettia

Native to Mexico, the Poinsettia did not become a mainstream holiday plant until it was popularized with the arrival of color television in the 1960s. Poinsettias decorated the holiday-themed television studio of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and the rest is history. People seeking these colorful blooms were attracted to the lush hybrids grown by the famous florist Paul Ecke Ranch in California. The Poinsettia is named for Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Minister to Mexico in the 1820s.
