Hoya Carnosa and Aeschynanthus Radicans

Hoya & Lipstick Plant

Both species are epiphytic, originating from tropical Southeast Asia, where they grow in tree canopies or the sides of rocky ledges. Due to the high light requirements, these plants are infrequently specified for interior landscapes but are considered a retro design choice for use in hanging planters.

Designer Notes

  • Hoya is also known as the Wax Plant, because of the waxy texture of the foliage. Hybrids with curled foliage are also called Rope Plants, as the growth pattern on their vines have a similar texture to a braided rope.
  • Lipstick Plants have green vines and produce blooms of red tubular flowers in bright light.
