Our Story

Founded by Larry M. Pliska in 1973 in Detroit, Michigan, Planterra was created on the idea that humans need to be connected with nature while spending time indoors. The solution was to bring live plants into buildings, a profession that became known as interior landscaping. As one of the first companies in North America to specialize exclusively in interior landscaping, Planterra quickly established long-term relationships with major institutions, Fortune 500 companies, and real estate organizations—many of whom remain clients today.

In 2010, Shane Pliska became President, leading the company’s expansion with the Planterra Network, a national provider of interior landscaping services covering every major market in the U.S. and Canada.
