This summer Planterra was honored to take home 3 plant installation awards from the 2015 International Plantscape Awards during Cultivate ’15, the horticulture industries largest annual convention. 41 awards were given to various projects designed and installed throughout the United States within the last year. The top award of the night was the Diamond Plantscape of the Year award which was taken home by Planterra for our spring installation at the Somerset Collection in Troy, Michigan.
Somerset Mall – Diamond Award
Category: Special Event & Holiday
In the center of the mall’s marble court, Planterra was contracted to transform the area into a lush spring garden. This type of project included the design, installation and maintenance of a blooming display lasting for 3 months. The materials used included live plant material including hundreds of forced bulbs, ivies and shrubs.
The display was designed to look and feel like an exterior garden which required mixing the use of traditional plants commonly used outside in Michigan with some of its northern-looking tropical cousins. The installation also included a complete herb garden which included lavender, basil, mint, thyme and rosemary.
As a spring mall display, the Somerset Collection utilized the space as their Easter Bunny photo site as well. Atop a stage lined with daffodils and hydrangeas sat 3 hedged rabbits watching over the garden.
Chase Building – Platinum Award
Category: Silk, Replica & Preserved
Another one of our award winners is from an installation done at the Chase Building in Downtown Detroit. This replica installation gives a modern and edgy vibe coupling replica plants and succulents with variegated iron staked sculptures and metallic gold prisms. This is a great example of how art and plant together can complement each other creating an entire display for the buildings many visitors.
Automotive Atrium – Gold Award
These beautiful plants from an installation in Auburn Hills, Michigan won Planterra another award this year. The combination of bold colors and well maintained plants really highlight the companies branding goals. This two level atrium utilizes the space provided with 14 foot Ficus Iyvata specimens in bold sunset orange containers paired with Sansevieria’s in beautiful sapphire planters with white river rock.
